Sunday the 5th of June 2022 was observed as the 2022 World Environment Day.
A lot of lectures, meetings and cleaning events took place world wide.
It is on that note where I feel that there is a lot that needs to be done in order to maintain the environmental awareness that was raised on the 5th of June.

First let's look at what exactly is going wrong in our communities that calls for more environmental awareness.
Illegal dumping
One of the major contributors of environmental pollution is illegal disposal of waste.
This can be at an industrial or domestic level.
Domestic Illegal Dumping
Poor waste management plan by municipalities or any other waste management responsible authorities normally results in residents dumping their domestic waste at illegal dump sites.
From those sites waste can then end up spreading back in communities in different ways.
Harzadous waste and plastic always find their way into water sources posing a big health hazard to both marine life and human beings.
Industrial Illegal Dumping
The manufacturing or agriculture industries that don't follow proper waste management rules and regulations .
Whilst we all agree that industrialization has brought some important advances in our day to day living conditions, It is important to note that a lot of environmental hazards came along with those advances.poorly managed oil spills, uncontrolled spraying of synthetic pesticides have over the time resulted in decline of insect, bird, fish and animal species.
What can be done to do things right?
The duty to create environmental awareness lies squarely on everyone's shoulders.
Awareness campaigns and public space cleaning events must not be only amplified on Environment Days but they should be an everyday routine.
Political leaders in charge of environmental affairs must do more to empower and sponsor Environmental Awareness Activists.
Observing World Environment Day and reminding each other of the importance of a clean environment should be an everyday song if we are to save ourselves from breathing contaminated air, consuming contaminated vegetable crops and contaminated water.
