CHRISTMAS FOOD PARCELS FOR THE LESS PRIVILEGED

Mr. Kenesias Dambakurima-Director Turning Point and Founder Voices For African Wildlife.

Cape Town, Strand

By T.Matewa

Several less privileged families in Cape Town, Strand have been remembered and will be blessed with some food parcels for the 2021 Christmas.

The Christmas holiday widely celebrated across the globe mostly by Christians and other religions is traditionally known as a day when people feast and have a chance to meet with their friends and families.

For most people, it is a day that everyone will be eagerly waiting for, but for those who don't have much, it is just like any other day.

We caught up with Mr. Kenesias Dambakurima known on social media platforms particularly Facebook as Kenny The Activist who has managed to organize food parcels for the disenfranchised families in the Strand area under his Exmas-Remember The Needy Initiative and he told us about how the idea came about.

Dambakurima who is a Human and Animal rights Activist is the Director of Turning Point, A community-based organization that empowers underprivileged people in disenfranchised communities by helping them start income-generating projects and also assist drug and alcohol addicts to stop drug and alcohol abuse, rehabilitate them, and helping them to start new clean chapters in their lives resulting in gender-based violence and drug and alcohol-related crimes eradication.

He is also the founder of Voices For African Wildlife that advocates for Animal rights.

The Christmas Parcel Project

Dambakurima told this publication that they launched the Exmas-Remember The Needy initiative on the 12th of December 2021.
"We bought Christmas combo parcels enough for 14 families and additional food items that were donated by members of his team can make up to 3 extra parcels."
"We are expecting to bless at least 17 families this Saturday," said Dambakurima

The initiative is a "Willing People/Community Project " which started when Mr. Dambakurima posted on Facebook on the 21st of December 2021 appealing to well-wishers to join him in his plan to buy Christmas food parcels for the needy.

"I was looking for only 4 people but I  ended up getting 15 people who showed interest in helping me make this initiative happen" he added.

"To me, it was a surprise as I wasn't expecting such a huge response as I had previously asked people to help us with clothes, food, blankets, and other basic household items for a family whose house had been razed down by fire in the Du Noon area".
"A lot of people positively responded to this call and donated, some donations are still coming, On the 19th of December 2021 I was in Du Noon to hand over the donated goods to the unfortunate family and I will be back again with more goods  I received from the people on Friday the 24th," said Dambakurima expressing gratitude to those who heed his call to assist.

For the Exmas-Remember The Needy Initiative 16 people swiftly responded and donated money to buy food parcels despite the short notice that Dambakurima had given.

"We are going to distribute the food parcels to families selected by Community members at Xaki Play Park, Asanda Village in Zola, Strand  ."

"Our selection process for the beneficiaries is very transparent as they are selected by community members and supporters/followers on the Community Facebook Group who live with them and know exactly who deserves to receive the parcels depending on their circumstances," explained Dambakurima, assuring all stakeholders that the donated food parcels would reach their intended recipients.

Dambakurima concluded by emphasizing that all he is doing for the underprivileged families is not his effort alone but a concerted effort by the Zimbabwean community across various communities.

He has also worked with several South African brothers and sisters on most of The Turning Point and Voices For African Wildlife projects.
