Among the many reasons why this promise will remain a promise is
1:Insincerity on the part of the government officials who at times divert the rural electrification funds to their personal use.
2:The deteriorating power generation plants that have been either neglected or not given proper service
3:Unsustainability the traditional sources of energy sources ( Which is where I want to advise you my valuable the reader)
Traditional energy sources like Thermal Power, Nuclear, and Hydro-Electric Power have somehow proved to be either unsustainable or expensive to maintain to a point where they can produce enough power to supply a country with a minimum population of about 14 million people.
This might not be the case in every part of the world but in developing countries particularly those in Africa it is.
It is for that reason that each homestead need to invest in a decent solar system and completely forget about that never fulfilled promise
Here I will list what is needed to have a simple decent solar system.
1:Solar Panels: These are the ones that you mount on top of your roof.
The size and number of panels depend on your power requirements and your budget.
They come in different sizes, designs, and qualities.
2: Panel Mounting Frames/Racks: Most people just place their solar panels on a roof and do not take appropriate measures to make sure that their panels are properly mounted to prevent them from being blown away by strong wind associated with rooftops.
After buying your panels make sure you buy mounting racks or you can make them yourself if you have some metalwork skills.
3:Solar Inverter(s): This is equally important as the solar panel as this is the component that converts Direct Current (DC) electricity from your Panels to Alternating Current (AC).
Again like panels, there is a variety of inverters that you can choose from on the market.
Size depends on your solar panel sizes and quantity and above all your household's electricity needs.
4:Batteries: Batteries are very important as they are the storage "Bank" of all the electricity generated by solar panels during the day.
Similarly the size, number, and quality of batteries are of utmost importance as they are the ones that wear off more often and should be replaced.
Solar batteries |
There are types of solar batteries including Lithium-ion batteries and Lead Acid batteries.
I prefer Lithium-ion batteries but after all, just like panels inverters affordability is much of a factor when choosing these solar system products.
Switchboards, circuit breakers, plugs, and electric cables are other things that you need to have ready before setting up your system
When you get the above, You are now good to hire someone to set your system up if you can't DIY.
It is very risky to try and set up the system if you don't have basic electrical knowledge as you can cause severe damage or fires if you don't do the wiring correctly.
